City: County Area New Smyrna Beach
Date: 09-09-2006
Time: N/A
Status: Active
A woman was shocked early Saturday morning to find a man wearing nothing more than a baseball cap in her living room. The woman had fallen asleep on her couch only to be awakened at about 3 a.m. by someone tickling her foot. She saw a strange man crouched behind the couch, and when she screamed at him, he dashed across the room with his hands covering his privates.

The woman immediately ran into her bedroom and woke up her husband. They then called 911. Responding deputies canvassed the area around the Katy Drive home, but didn’t find the culprit. The naked intruder was a white male about 5’9” tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds. He was wearing a dark-colored baseball cap backwards.

Volusia County Sheriff’s Office investigators are working with the New Smyrna Beach Police Department on this case since similar incidents have happened in the area in 2005 and earlier.

There was no threat of violence during this or past incidents, but area residents are urged to make sure their homes are secured at night. Report any suspicious activity to your local law enforcement agency or call 911.

Anyone with information about this or other incidents is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (386) 423-3301 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida toll-free at 1-888-277-TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
