An armed robbery Wednesday night at a Valero store in Ormond-by-the-Sea is under investigation by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. No one was injured during the robbery, which occurred just before 10:30 p.m. A clerk said the electricity went off in the store moments before the robbery. A man entered the store, pulled out a gun and demanded money. When the employee said he couldn’t open the register because the electricity was out, an accomplice standing outside the door went to the electrical box and turned the power back on. The employee then complied and got an undisclosed amount of money from the register and handed it to the robber. The two suspects then fled in a dark-colored SUV.

Deputies rushed to the scene to mount a search that included approximately eight patrol units, a K-9 team and a Sheriff’s Office helicopter, but the suspects weren’t located. The suspect who entered the store and pulled out a gun was a skinny White man who was clean-shaven and was wearing a black cap. The accomplice was a Black man with a beard who was searing a white shirt. While the accomplice didn’t display a weapon, he held his hand under his shirt to imply he was armed. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sheriff’s investigator Richard Graves at (386) 323-0151 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS (8477). Callers to Crime Stippers will remain anonymous and could be elegible for a reward up to $1000.00,
