The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is working to identify a lone gunman who robbed the Family Dollar Store on Saxon Boulevard in Deltona Saturday night. No shots were fired and no one was injured during the incident.

Deputies were dispatched to the business after the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 7:48 p.m. reporting the robbery. Witnesses said the suspect walked into the store wearing a nylon stocking cap, pointed a gun at the manager and demanded money. After the manager complied and handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, the gunman ordered the manager into the bathroom. The robber then ran out the back door of the store.

Approximately nine patrol deputies, two K-9 units, two investigators and a Sheriff’s Office helicopter responded to the call and initiated an extensive search for the fleeing suspect and evidence from the crime scene. The suspect was described as a black man between 6’ and 6’3” and between the ages of 33-38, with a medium build. He was wearing blue jeans, a white shirt with blue trim on the sleeves and the number 10 on the front, and white tennis shoes.
